The competition that seeks to revolutionise science communication in schools is back.

FameLab Academy is back for 2023. A schools initiative which seeks to revolutionise science communication in schools, FameLab Academy is a competition which sees Year 9 students, supported by their teachers and a STEM Mentor from the world of academia or industry, prepare three minute presentations to explain a scientific topic in a dynamic and engaging way to a panel of judges.

Whether arts, performance, maths or science is your thing, this competition gives all Year 9 students a chance to shine. This year's competition was launched in person at Hatherley Manor Hotel and Spa for the first time since 2019.

Teachers and mentors came together to share their experiences, learn about the competition and start planning.

Cheltenham Festivals, Learning and Participation Manager (STEM), Kelly Turner, said: "FameLab Academy, our science communication competition, is back this year with the largest number of Gloucestershire schools involved to date. We’re so excited to be inspiring young people to communicate their passion for science whilst also exploring the breadth of STEM careers available to them through the collaborations with STEM mentors across the UK. We’re thrilled to be kicking off with our launch this week and to see what Year 9 students bring to the Gloucestershire final in March 2023!"
