VOICEBOX is a vibrant home to free, pop-up events and content that explores everything from spoken word, sex and wellbeing to mental health, sustainability, politics and social justice. It's a platform for all voices to feel empowered and a place to be inspired through debate, discussion and performance.

In 2021, Monika Radojevic was booked for an event as part of the VOICEBOX programme at Cheltenham Literature Festival. She read from her debut collection, teeth in the back of my neck, which had won the #Merky Books New Writer's Prize earlier that year. Touching on themes of identity, ancestry and belonging, this powerful performance will explore the joy and sadness behind having your history scattered around the globe – and the way in which your identity is always worn on your skin, whether you like it or not.

Monika returned to the Festival in 2022, bringing a new workshop of her own creation to VOICEBOX, Feminist Invoicing, which invited people to 'invoice' the patriarchy through creative writing and poetry.

She also made her debut on the Festival's ticketed programme in a panel event, Fix the System, Not the Women, opening the debate with poetry readings and speaking alongside Laura Bates, Mandu Reid and Soma Sara.

The atmosphere of Cheltenham last year was so fantastic - it was one of the deciding factors in keeping going in promoting my book and my work - and Feminist Invoicing! You were one of the first people I spoke to about it.

2023

Returning to Cheltenham Literature Festival once again in 2023, Monika brought back Feminist Invoicing to the VOICEBOX programme. She co-curated another event, Body Positivity: Where Next, and chaired a further 2 events in the programme.

Having had such a fulfilling journey with VOICEBOX, Monika also gave a speech at the Festival's Opening Night Party telling staff, partners, patrons and friends her story.

I met such wonderful, like-minded people and was able to make some connections that are already opening up new opportunities for me. A huge thank you for how you and the wider team have championed smaller voices like mine, and how you continue to support up and coming creatives with all the work you're doing.
